Dixie Senior Golf Association
The Dixie Senior Golf Association (DSGA) was formed in approximately 1993 by a group of senior golf enthusiasts. The purpose of the association was to enable a large group of senior golfers to enjoy a tournament once a month that would be held on different golf courses in Middle Georgia. Initially we had only one division. Our waiting list grew to the point that it was taking 4 to 7 years for new members to get to be members. In 2004 the Board of Directors finally decided to start another division and take in all who were on the waiting list and then allow enough of the Division I members who wanted to be in both divisions to build the membership to the 165 member limit. Tournaments are normally held on the third and fourth Mondays of each month. DSGA I Tournaments are held on the fourth Monday and DSGA II Tournaments are held on the third Monday. Members of DSGA I get first priority for DSGA I Tournaments and DSGA II members get first priority for DSGA II Tournaments. If either division does not fill their tournament with their members, members of the other division will be accepted to complete the tournament field. When ever possible we provide lunch after tournaments.
The requirements for membership are simple. You have to be at least 50 years old, be recommended for membership by two current members and payment of the annual dues. New members are inducted each year in April and May or whenever there is an opening. Membership is limited to 165 members. Through out the history of DSGA there has been a waiting list of applicants for membership. The association is governed by a board of directors elected by the membership to serve a twelve month term. The board consists of: President, Vice-president, Secretary, Treasurer and four directors. Two of the board members must come from DSGA II. One of these two directors from DSGA II will serve as the tournament director for DSGA II. The association holds its election of officers and directors prior to playing in the April tournament each year. Officers and directors serve from the first of May through the end of April.
In addition to the monthly tournaments DSGA also conducts an additional outings, a Fall Ball. This outing is a three day event held at sites in the Southeast (Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North and South Carolina). This event usually is Monday through Thursday and is open to guests and wives. These are open to the first 120 golfers that register when registration is opened for the outing.
DSGA Tournaments are made up of three flights and prizes are awarded to the first six places in each flight. In addition we give an award to the closest to the hole on four par three holes. We also honor your birthday by letting you play one tournament in your birthday month at a discounted rate.
