DSGA's Method of Establishing and Adjusting Points (Updated 4/1/17)

DSGA Tournaments use a scoring system based on points pulled instead of handicaps. We start a new member with his USGA handicap or a confirmed average score. An even par round would net you with 36 points at two points per hole. If your handicap is 34 or higher you must make 2 points to be even. If your handicap is 18 you must make 18 points and if your handicap is 6 you must make 30 points. Points are awarded based on the score for each hole. One point for a bogie, two points for a par, four points for a birdie and 8 points for an eagle or a hole in one. Points are adjusted after each time a player competes in one of our tournaments.

For the purpose of establishing equality in our competitions we have the field divided into three flights with approximately equal number of players in each flight. For example high handicap players play in a flight with approximate points required from 2 to 13, middle handicap players play with points from 14 to 19, and low handicap players play with points from 20 up.

The following is the procedure for adjusting points in DSGA I and II.

1. If you are a winner your points will be raised 2 points.

a. This applies if you win with either Plus or Minus points.

2. If you are a non-winner with plus points they will not be adjusted.

3. If you are a non-winner with minus 1 point your points will remain the same.

4. If you are a non-winner and are minus 2 or 3 points your points will go down 1 point.

5. If you are a non-winner and have minus 4 or more points your points will be adjusted down 2 points.

6. There is a maximum adjustment of 2 points either up or down.

We hope this clarifies the system for you, if not, please let one of your board members know.
